OGINO Yuna "Silent Tales"(TOKYO)

31 May - 24 June 2023

Mizuma Art Gallery is pleased to present “Silent Tales,” a solo exhibition by OGINO Yuna starting Wednesday, May 31.

OGINO Yuna, born in Tokyo in 1982, graduated from the Graduate School of Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2007. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions both domestically and internationally, including the ‘Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh,’ and has held solo exhibitions in various locations such as New York, actively presenting her works. In addition to her art practice, she has expanded her activities by creating product labels for items like honey and illustrating the serialized novel ‘Panem et Circenses’ by Masahiko Shimada (published by Kodansha in 2022) as one of the members in a group of painters.

OGINO Yuna primarily creates semi-abstract paintings with motifs of organisms that are familiar to the artist, such as flowers and figures. Throughout the process of painting on canvas, she gradually reconstructs the specific depictions into abstract forms, generating a chain of various image shapes and a rhythmic interplay of light colors. In her recent nude figure paintings, she removes the eroticism of the male gaze and depicts them with a supple touch from a female perspective, focusing on the energy inherent in the existence of life, emotions, and transience.

In this exhibition ‘Silent Tales,’ she presents a group of works inspired by passing scenery and the wordless stories that lie behind them.

Book publication ‘Traces of Life’:

In conjunction with this exhibition, OGINO Yuna’s second art book ‘Traces of Life’ will be published and available for purchase at the venue from the first day.
